Taos Winter Wine Festival, Jan 24-26, 2006
For us it was a chance to ski all day in one of the most beautiful ski areas in the US. Great seminars, wine dinners and tastings and none of them will keep you from the slopes! It's always a great time, so keep your eyes open for the 2007 schedule. We plan to be there! For more information online it's skitaos.org
Vintners' Holiday
And a wonderful time was had by all at the Vintners’ Holiday at the historic Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite Valley offers wine tastings, seminars, and meals in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. In past lives, both of us attended this event and we were thrilled to be back with Dyer Cabernet. We featured a vertical tasting of our Diamond Mountain District estate Cabernet for our seminar. link here for more information on Vintners' Holidays.
Harvest at Dyer Vineyards... Finally!
Vintage 2005 - the Napa Valley experienced unseasonably warm weather in the early Spring. Temperatures of close to 80 degrees in late February and early March led to speculation of an early harvest. This was followed by a seemingly endless succession of cold rainstorms that have lasted throughout April and May and into June. It rained over 7” at Dyer Vineyard between May and the middle of June. The good news is that temperatures remained cool enough that mildew and botrytis (our two main fungal problems) did not take hold. Bloom was long and finished in the 2nd week of June. The weather remained slightly cooler than normal throughout August. Sept and October were perfect for ripening Cabernet- no heat spikes, no raisining, just perfectly even ripening. The crop was about average in the Diamond Mountain District and up about 15% in the valley. We think this may really be the vintage of the century!

Wine News, June/July 2005
Wine News, June/July 2005. Steve Pitcher writes the definitive article on the Diamond Mountain District. The whole article is great... about us he says "the winemaking Dyers, Dawnine and Bill, may be the most famous couple on Diamond Mountain". Read on! Mining Jewels on Diamond Mountain When rating the wines, Wine News reviewed the upcoming 2002 (to be released in September 05). "Dyer, 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon, DMD - $TBD [$75]: Brambly, ripe blackberry-red cherry aromas with notes of anise and dark chocolate. Full and rich in the mouth with muscular, yet supple tannins and lively flavors of red berry and cassis; long finish. Score: 91"
