Wine Spectator Weekly, Online Only, Sept 16, 2004

Wine Spectator Weekly, Online Only, Sept 16, 2004. The issue is devoted to a celebrity red-wine face off featuring the best of Tuscany and California Cabernet. Jim Laube writes about California. About the 12 Cabernets selected to be reviewed the article says "They include both the usual suspects and some rising stars. Though 2001 was an outstanding vintage, it was a tricky one, and not all the big names produced terrific wines. Laube steers you to the winners." Here's what he says about 2001 Dyer. "A rich, earthy style, with loads of concentrated currant, anise, mineral and red cherry scents. Focused and persistent, it is well built, with firm, chewy tannins and a long finish that features ripe, juicy flavors. Best from 2006-2012. 90pts."

Rich, round, intense and dry it has big mountain blackberry, peppery, spicy, licorice, black olive flavours with a cardamom, vanilla, chocolate finish. Warm full and well balanced it will improve even more 2 to 4 more years in bottle." Tasted 7/4/04 90pts
