Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Dyer Vineyard ~ Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Grown On Diamond Mountain

Cabernet Sauvignon is often called the “king of grapes” and that is certainly true in Napa Valley’s Diamond Mountain District.  It is perhaps the most widely planted grape in the world, rising first to prominence in France’s Bordeaux region where it thrives and where the reputation for high quality wines is historic.  Flavor in red wines is extracted from the skins during fermentation, and Cabernet Sauvignon, with it’s small berries and thick skins, makes wines that are highly colored, flavorful and have a tannin structure that ensures age-ability.  In Napa Valley, this is accentuated in the hillside AVAs where well-drained soils ripen grapes with extremely small berries and reduced yields making for intense, concentrated wines with high typicity and great structure.  Cabernet Sauvignon is the dominant grape in Napa Valley’s Diamond Mountain District and here at Dyer Vineyard it is 78% of the vineyard.  The two blending varieties grown at Dyer Vineyard are Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

2018 – Current Release

Our latest release is the 2018 vintage. The 2018 growing season stands out as a classic Napa Valley vintage. A wet spring set the tone with good spring growth. A long cool growing season- one where we brushed 100 degrees infrequently, followed. Warm weather lingered into October and we picked on Oct 8. The blend is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot.

The 2018 Dyer Vineyard Diamond Mountain Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is an expressive version of our Cabernet blend- richly aromatic with currents, plums, hint of violets and savory notes of cedar.  At this young age it is showing all the depth of flavor and textural richness that are hallmarks of Diamond Mountain and Dyer Vineyard.  It’s a classic vintage, hitting all the notes that you have come to expect from Dyer and Diamond Mountain.

What The Critics Are Saying…

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold, pungent wine.  So many 2018s are succulent and open-knit but the Dyer Cabernet is far from that. The aromatics alone are beguiling.  Lavendar, sage, licorice and inky blue/purplish fruit all come alive in the glass.  Readers will find a beautifully complex, savory Cabernet full of character.
